Product details

BCN Tranexamic Acid: a more even complexion, session after session

Stubborn melasma, dark spots, post-inflammatory marks, or diffuse redness: tranexamic acid has become a reference active ingredient for evening out the complexion. BCN Tranexamic Acid, formulated by Institute BCN in Barcelona, is offered in ready-to-use sterile ampoules, easy to integrate into mesotherapy, microneedling, or electroporation protocols. A minimalist formula (water and tranexamic acid) for depigmenting, brightening, and mattifying action. Institute BCN Tranexamic Acid product sheet.

Why choose BCN Tranexamic Acid

  • Targeted action on melasma: tranexamic acid slows the cascade that stimulates melanocytes, for a gradual reduction of hormonally, sun-induced, or post-inflammatory spots.
  • Anti-redness effect: its vasoconstrictive action also helps reduce redness caused by small vessels (couperose, diffuse erythema).
  • Minimalist formula: only water and tranexamic acid, no fragrance or unnecessary preservatives, for excellent tolerance.
  • Versatile: can be used in mesotherapy, microneedling, dermaroller, electroporation, or iontophoresis, alone or in a cocktail.
  • Convenient format: 10 ampoules of 2 ml, a fresh, sterile dose for each session.

Tranexamic acid is a synthetic derivative of lysine. Applied to the skin, it blocks the activation of plasminogen in keratinocytes, which reduces the production of prostaglandins and arachidonic acid, two messengers that stimulate melanin synthesis. Result: less pigment is produced, and spots gradually lighten, without irritating the skin.

Usage protocol

  1. Clean and thoroughly dry the skin; disinfect if using a needle technique.
  2. Open the ampoule just before the session: the contents are sterile and should be used immediately.
  3. Apply the solution using the chosen technique: classic mesotherapy, microneedling or dermaroller, electroporation, or iontophoresis (needle-free mesotherapy).
  4. For topical application, gently massage until fully absorbed.
  5. Repeat sessions according to the chosen protocol; in clinical studies, the interval between sessions ranges from two to four weeks, with daily sun protection throughout the treatment.

BCN Tranexamic Acid can be combined with other brightening or revitalizing actives (vitamin C, depigmenting peptides, hyaluronic acid) for a custom cocktail.

Observed results

In a randomized comparative study published in the Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery, 60 patients with moderate to severe melasma received tranexamic acid via micro-injections or microneedling, with three sessions spaced four weeks apart. The MASI score (extent and intensity of melasma) decreased by 35.7% in the micro-injection group and by 44.4% in the microneedling group, and over 40% of patients in the microneedling group achieved at least a 50% improvement. The authors reported no major adverse effects, only transient redness or warmth lasting one to two days. Budamakuntla et al., 2013. Results vary depending on the type of spots and protocol regularity.

Good to know

BCN Tranexamic Acid should not be used in case of allergy to any of the components; a tolerance test is recommended on very reactive skin. The manufacturer does not recommend its use during pregnancy, and daily sun protection is essential to maintain results.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between BCN Tranexamic Acid and a depigmenting cocktail like BCN Lumen Peptides?

BCN Tranexamic Acid is a single active from the Classics range: it provides only tranexamic acid, allowing for precise dosing and custom mixing. BCN Lumen Peptides is a complete formula with biomimetic peptides, ready to use. Many combine them: tranexamic acid for melasma, peptides for overall radiance.

How long does it take to see results?

Initial improvements generally appear after two to three sessions; the study cited above shows a clear reduction in melasma after three sessions spaced four weeks apart, with improvement continuing in the following months.

How many sessions per box?

Each 2 ml ampoule corresponds to one session: the box allows for ten sessions, i.e., a full course or several maintenance treatments.

Can it be used without needles?

Yes. Institute BCN recommends virtual mesotherapy (electroporation, iontophoresis) and microneedling or dermaroller; for simple application, massage the solution until absorbed.

Is it compatible with a peel or laser?

Tranexamic acid is commonly used after a depigmenting peel or laser to limit the risk of pigment rebound. Allow for complete healing between the two and maintain sun protection.

Is it suitable for dark or sensitive skin?

Yes: the reference study was conducted on phototypes IV and V with very good tolerance, and the fragrance- and preservative-free formula is suitable for reactive skin.

How should ampoules be stored?

In a cool, dry place, away from direct light, until the date indicated on the box. An opened ampoule should be used immediately and not stored.

How is delivery handled?
